Ebola Alert: Nigeria Confirms, Uganda Denies Cases
Professor Charles Olaro of Uganda's Ministry of Health has addressed reports regarding a confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria. The case involves a Nigerian woman who traveled to the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo for business purposes. Preliminary findings suggest she passed through Uganda in early October without displaying symptoms and later developed them upon her arrival in Nigeria. However, her transit through Uganda does not imply that she contracted the infection there, as the exact source of exposure is still under investigation.
The Nigerian government has yet to release comprehensive details about the woman's travel history and medical background, which are essential for further exploration and potential contact tracing. It is important to note that, as of this statement, Uganda has no confirmed active cases of Ebola. Additionally, while limited measures were in place for humanitarian and diplomatic travel, the Ministry is committed to enhancing screening protocols and public health measures at all entry points.
The Ministry of Health urges the public to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing the importance of regular handwashing and sanitization practices. Verified updates will be communicated promptly via official channels to ensure accurate information is accessible.
