LET US TACKLE POVERTY IN NIGERIA

Tackling poverty in Nigeria is not a one-day job. But it is one that requires the efforts of everyone. We need to emphasize on the need for Nigerians to begin to look beyond discriminating one another- tribalism, the rich taking advantage of the poor to get richer- is that not exploitation?

And we are not doing anything to help each other-co-operation if we must move on!

The level of tribalism, exploitation, greed, lack of co-operation contributes to the material poverty and the poverty of the mind in our society. We need to grow up, we need to come together and stand up against poverty!

He advised the grandaunts to “think the unthinkable, dare the undareable and move the immovable” he lay emphasis on the need for Nigerians to think more. “When you engage your brain on thinking, you expand it” he said. “All human brains are the same in size, content and color and structure. I only differs in what it accomplishes based on engagement.” He added.

Oyedepo employed people to be resourceful thinkers because only the brave ever become great. He said that bravery is the cure for slavery. He noted that only 10% of Nigerians think, 25% think they are thinkers while the remaining 65% die rather than think.

THE LEGALITY OF THE STRIP DANCING

The strip club is another form of adult entertainment in Nigeria which the owner of this club enslave the minor (underage) or older vulnerable girls into prostitution. Most of these girls who engage in it are picked from the street or their villages with promises of being engaged in business.

But this business unknown to them is prostitution. The older prostitutes are people who recruit these young girls into prostitution. What we know as strip show is beyond the humanly knowledge, in terms of what happens inside these clubs, that is the kind of activities...in these clubs which mostly are located in the ikeja, Victoria island and other business zones in Lagos. Meanwhile in Abuja, the most popular one is the Eddy Vic hotel at Garki 2. There is also a strip club in Port Harcourt and other cities in Nigeria.

Girls, the stripers, are paid as much as N50, 000 and as low as N2, 500, depending on the club they strip for. They also get tips from their fans who are the big wig in the society. These big boys sometimes take the bold step in paying to have any of these girls for the night. A certain percent of what these girls make goes to their coordinator. The Ocean Blue is a strip club in Lagos where strip girls freely have sex with men while giving them lap dance for extra tips.

Some of the dancers blame poverty, lack of parental care and other circumstances as the reason why they engage in it. Some guys are exploring this form of business as a means to enrich themselves, not as stripers but as agents who recruit girls for these clubs. These agents recruit strip girls from all over the country and travel with them to different clubs in the big cities. The agents get paid and then in turn pay the girls off.

Do these agents get away with it? What is the government doing about it? And these girls, how long do they intend to remain strippers? is strip dance a legal business in Nigeria?

MUCH A DO ABOUT THE DISPARITY

Penury being English word having a grammatical conception dictates when a person is living in a state of poverty that is so glaring and extreme. This implies a standard of living where a person lives less than one dollar per day. This means that the person cannot afford to eat twice a day.

Such a living is full of lack of basic necessities to live a comfortable life. No comfortable home, no clothes, no nourishing meal, mo access to amenities and good infrastructures, no access to good health care, education etc. a person living in penury is referred to as a pauper suffering from a socio psychological disease. Most people suffering from penury can rise above it with determination. But if not, such person can perish in penury.

Meanwhile, poverty is a state of being poor, and lacking the basic things needed to enjoy a qualitative life. These people also live below one dollar per day. A man said to be poor can be suffering from poverty of material things or poverty of ideas. In both light, poverty is poverty.

When both a person living in poverty and penury meet people who are willing to help, they can either ask for fish or ask to be taught how to fish. If they are given a fish, they could go hungry again after eating the fish but if they are taught how to fish, they can then sustain themselves for a long time and also help others rise above the poverty line.

Nigeria being a developing country has quite a number of people suffering from both penury and poverty. But with aid and partnership from donors in the global platform, the situation is alleviated.

DISPARTIY BETWEEN PENURY AND POVERTY

Penury is derived from the Latin penuria, which means "want, need." Penury is a state of poverty characterized by wants and needs. It is a state of extreme poverty or destitution

Poverty is the state of being poor, lacking money and necessaries of life. Lacking essential qualities.

From my understanding, the disparity between penury and poverty can be seen in its meaning. Penury Perpetuates Poverty in all ramifications. Penury is EXTREME poverty. Penury is the man who lives under the bridge in Ikeja due to his extreme poverty/lack and inability to even rent a house. Poverty is the woman who sits under a small shed in Ojota selling petty goods and making less than one dollar per day.

In Nigeria,
disparities between rich and poor have risen sharply. There are the extremely rich, who are getting richer and the extremely poor who are getting poorer!

There are different factors that can lead a nation to penury- such as War, natural disaster, etc. For example, War brings nothing but a situation where people live from hand to mouth.

A living full of wretchedness and total lack of amenities for a standard living is the beginning of penury... one thousand proof of what penury and poverty has caused in the life of people all over the world into committing themselves to unprintable activities.

WHAT HAS STRIPING GOT WITH IT?

A strip club is a form of entertainment often refered to as adult entertainment. These clubs offer services that are in nature erotic, as young girls are seen suggestively removing their clothing until they are naked. There are various types of clubs taking the lead in this form of business all over Lagos.
These includes Unique club located in Ikeja Lagos, Ocean Blue located adjacent to Sweet Sensation Bus Stop, along Opebi Road, Ikeja etc.
P.M.News investigation reveals that the stripper receives N2,000 for the job and N2,500 goes to the club as entrance fee to the VIP hall. As it seems, it is a very lucrative business.
Although the Lagos State Government last year shut down these two strip clubs- Ocean Blue and Club Unique, more seem to be emerging. The strip clubs which are most based in Ikeja, Ogba, and Oke Ira axis Lagos, are all along the same road. Gist has it that one of the clubs in particular, Cazzbah, sometimes gives admission free as long as they are not under-aged. This clubs are; Club O, opposite Ikeja Airport Hotel, is a strip bar club that gives pole dancing, to their guest. Millennium Suite, however only treat their customer to strip dancing only on Friday.
