Divorce wasn't the Answer- Jadesola Otedola

Jadesola and Ademola, met while both where in the high school. Ademola happened to be in his final year class, and about taking his Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE), while Jadesola still has two more classes before she will round-off in the high school. Jadesola and Ademola loves each other so much and secretly nurse the fantasy of getting married later. It is important that both have to complete their studies in order to have a better future. Though, Jadesola is born with a siliver spoon; she believes that, to have a better future, one has to work hard and prepared for it.

When Ademola finished from the high school, he left for USA to pursue his career as an Engineer. On getting abroad, he needed time to settle down to do all the necessary thing he has to do concerning his academic registration on his new campus. There was no time to write Jadesola; his girlfriend, as well as his own family, back home. He try to focus on his primary assignment, which is his academic pursuit. Years in and years out, Ademola lives overseas: studying there hasn't been easy for him. He struggled and manage to complete his course at the Havard University; through a scholarship from Shell. After his graduation he decided to continue with his masters degree program, and had planned to settled down in the State. Meanwhile, Jadesola was still in Nigeria hoping Ademola will come back to her, as soon as he finishes his studies. She believes that even though Ademola hasn't written; in the last 10 years, her old time lover will come back for her soon. She even created, and accepted excuses on his behalf, that it might be that things aren't easy for him over there. Jadesola has already finished from the high school, and even had B.A in law from a reputable university in Nigeria. All was well with her, until she lost her mother; that was not anything to stop her from her goals in life as she moves on with her life alongside, with her other siblings. Jadesola refused to go into any other relationship, because she believes Ademola will definitely come back for her.

Different men from all works of life were coming to ask for her hands in marriage, but she never yielded to any of them. Her family and friends advised her to start another relationship, because she can not continue waiting for Ademola, and from the look of things; it seems Ademola has forgotten about her, yet, she was optimistic. What if Ademola is already married to a white woman? What if his lifestyle has changed since he left the country? What will she do? All these were the questions which are thrown her by well-wishers, but she maintained that her own Ademola would return. She continues with her work, whenever she is bored, she just hang out with her friends. She was really enjoying her life without any man in it. She often visits Ademola's mother and siblings since Ademola father was already dead.

To cut the story, after 12 years of waiting, she got the news that Ademola was coming back to Nigeria, and she was very excited about it. She told her family and friends about the news and her big hope. Everyone was surprised at the news. Some believe Jade is living a fool's paradise. They thought among themselves that even if ever Ade returns, he will come with a white woman, and Jade will be disappointed after all.

It was a bright weather day when the Plane touched ground at The Muritala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos around 3:45 pm, on June 5, 2008. Jade drove to the Airport in her white Toyota Corolla to pick up Ade from the Airport, and brought him to her family house; since the hotel he would lodge was on the same street where she lives. Jade was the happiest person on this day, and everyone rejoiced with her, because of her unfailing faith that Ade will come back for her, and for the courage she took to wait faithfully for over a decade.

After few months in that same year, they got married. They had the wedding introduction first, followed by the engagement (traditional wedding), according to the Yoruba culture, and the court wedding. It was a big, and colourful events with the elite of the society in attendance at the wedding reception which took place at the Onikan Museum hall. It was one of the biggest event at that time; having members from the royal family gracing the occasion. After a successful wedding ceremony, they moved to their new home in Ikoyi. Ade was already building his own house in Lekki phase 2, Lagos. Which is expected to be completed the following year. Ade bought Jade a Range Rover Sport 2005 model, as her wedding present from him. He also handed over all his account to Jade his wife, and he told her not to do any work; he just want her to manage his account and take care of their home. Jade obeyed her husband; she resigned from her work. Life was indeed beautiful for her, soon she became the envy of all. Jade is a Philanthropist, she never stop giving helping hands to the less priviledge ones in the country (Nigeria), she cares for all.

Exactly one year after their marage, a problem arose between her and her mother-in-law, who happened to be living with them; since the day they got married. Now, it is no more funny, as Ade's mummy expect Jade to be pregnant, but pregnancy isn't forth coming. The pressure became too much, that she told her son that she thinks Jade cannot bear him a child. She finally concluded that Jade has to go, so her son can remarry. But her son refused; he asked his mother to give Jade more time, since they are only a year old in marriage.

After about three years of several medical consultant and testing, and Jade could'nt conceive, it became a big war between her and her mother-in-law. The old woman vowed to place a curse on Jade if she refuses to leave her son alone. She also acused her of using some black magic (Voodoo) on her son; that is why her son will not listen to her suggestion to send her away from their house. When the fights became unbearable, they finally divorce. No one seems to understand her reason for not being able to have a child.

"Divorce wasn't the answer, but my mother in law do not understand the fact that only God can give one a child"- Jadesola

Her husband never doubted her modesty as he confirmed to his highly inquisitive friends, that he was the one who made her a woman. But what is the problem with Jadesola?

Is it a good thing that Ademola finally divorce Jadesola, after all her years of waiting for one man?

Jadesola's live has been the same again eversince. What advice do you have for women who might be going through similar situation? Please kindly drop your comments.
